The Taming of The Shrew
Event Date: March 24, 2018
Touched by Caribbean interpretation,
the play is set in Trinidad as our unique creation
The period 1960’s proved a fascinating time
The pulse of calypso, gesture and language strong in vibe
This was a time when there was pride in dress and suit
This was a time when ambatailah attitude was not cute
This was a time when children sang the Aunty Kay song
And the adults sang along
This was a time when man and woman business was on the street
And could end up in a calypso, sometimes not discreet
And so we embrace Shakespeare’s story
With robust energy, and Caribbean imagery
Caribbean parallels appear evident
In character, content of narrative, transcendent
While faithful to Shakespeare’s script
Our tempo and lingo seal the gist
We immerse our Caribbean heritage
In gesture and nuance of language
We present to you, with our tincture and hue
The Taming of the Shrew
